Whitchurch Association Defibrillator Project
At the Whitchurch Association, we are committed to making our community a safer place by ensuring rapid access to life-saving defibrillators and equipping local residents with the knowledge and confidence to use them.
Defibrillators in Whitchurch
Whitchurch has 15 defibrillators strategically placed across the town. Many of these are located in external 24/7-accessible cabinets, ensuring that in an emergency, help is always close at hand. We work with the South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS) defibrillator programme which allows anyone to locate the nearest available unit, reinforcing our commitment to emergency preparedness.
Why This Matters for a Rural Town
Medical emergencies, particularly sudden cardiac arrests (SCA), require immediate action. Survival rates can be as high as 70% when a defibrillator is used within the first few minutes. However, in rural areas like Whitchurch, ambulance response times can be longer due to distance and availability. That’s why we are working to ensure nobody in Whitchurch is more than 400 metres (a 3–5-minute walk) from a defibrillator, dramatically increasing the chances of survival.
Find a Defibrillator Near You
To locate the nearest public access defibrillator, visit the SCAS website, where real-time information on available defibrillators is provided, or consult our downloadable PDF.

Empowering the Community
Beyond placing defibrillators, we believe knowledge saves lives. The Whitchurch Association has provided free, confidence building training to over 1,000 people, including children as young as 8 years old.
Our goal is to equip as many people as possible with the ability to act swiftly and effectively in an emergency.
